Last week we were over at my good mate James’ house and saw a potential roof-drop with the DD Airbag NextStep Lander. This got us thinking, which then lead us to wanting to look a little harder and find another couple of obstacles to add to the backyard airbag setup.

After checking the property out, we came back with two ideas.

The following Saturday we woke up at 6am and headed back to James’ house to set up our DIY bmx park.

The first gap of the day was a step-down gap from his pool deck down into the the street which was about a 8 foot step-down to the bag. The hardest thing about this was the short run up which was probably only 30 feet in length. The main concern of this was getting enough speed to make the airbag and avoid the low-hanging power lines.

After numerous test runs I finally sent it sliding out but overcoming the fear of not making the gap. I then rode back up to the top for round 2, pulling it this time round to complete 1/2 jumps for the day.

We then proceeded to the roof drop which is approximately 3 stories high. We setup the NestStep Lander at the bottom of the drop and we were ready to go. James hasn’t really been riding BMX for about 5 years and he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to jump a bike off his own house!

It only took about 40 minutes of prep time to get the roof setup and get the airbag in place. Fortunately this time I managed to pull it first go while James managed to land it on his 3rd go to the finish of a successful morning.

Today has now made us super excited to find some new house / backyard bmx setups and see what else we can come up with and jump. This NextStep Lander has changed the way we now look at houses and we can’t wait to see what else we can find to jump!
